Thinking Historically

Canada’s History site offers good examples of how to teach students to Think Historically. The content on the site is aimed at upper junior, intermediate and senior students. Teachers of primary grades can use the information as a guide to adapt lessons for their youngers students. These 6 concepts are:

  1. Using primary source evidence
  2. Establishing historical significance
  3. Taking a historical perspective
  4. Understanding the ethical dimension in history
  5. Identifying continuity and change
  6. Cause and consequence
